XIMA guide

Notation

Since all blocks move the same way, recording a XIMA game is easier than in chess: you usually just write the square a block arrives on.

Writing a move

  • The move number followed by a full stop.
  • The destination square, in capital letters: D3.
  • A hyphen before it if a common block is entered: -C2.
  • An equals sign if the special block is entered: =C7.
  • An x for a capture: C4xC10.
  • With dice, the numbers rolled and a slash first: 4/-A4.

Long and short form

The long form writes the starting square and the destination (C3D3) and is easier for beginners. The short form only writes the destination (D3). If two blocks could reach the same square, add the starting column (BD11) or row (8C7) to tell them apart.

Reaching the summit can be written G7, Xima, Cima, (*), 1-0 or Gana. A result of 1-0 means the first player won; 0-1, the second.
